The standard supports engineers in the methodical development of products based on shape memory alloys. Included instructions for use and methodical tools are to be understood as a recommendation and are not intended to be exhaustive. The development methodology described in the standards relates to the shape memory alloy actuator-system as a part of a holistic product development process. The development of the full system or the complete marketable product is not subject of this standard. For this purpose standards such as VDI 2206 (development of mechatronical systems) or VDI 2221 (product development processes) are to be applied.
