This guideline surveys methods for characterizing and monitoring test aerosols generated under laboratory conditions. Monitoring or characterizing the aerosol at the generator outlet may require either continuous or discontinuous sampling according to the type of generator used. The subject of this guideline is classified both according to the type of measuring techniques available and to the aerosol parameter that can be measured. Measuring techniques are classified according to the particle size and number concentration range covered.
