Short description
Power-to-X technologies, especially power-to-gas plants, are becoming increasingly important for the energy transition in Germany. They enable the conversion of renewable energy into storable and versatile energy sources such as hydrogen. As they become more widespread, safety aspects are also coming into sharper focus. This classification of Power-to-X plants as critical infrastructure entails increased requirements for physical security and, in particular, cybersecurity. With the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy, there is a growing need to address safety issues early and comprehensively. Incidents that attract media attention could jeopardize acceptance and delay the expansion of infrastructure. With a structured overview of applicable regulations, laws, and technical rules that provide valuable guidance for manufacturers, operators, and authorities, the VDI Expert Recommendation makes an important contribution to raising awareness. In this way, it promotes the safe and socially accepted integration of Power-to-X technologies into the energy supply.
