DIN EN ISO 9606 specifies requirements for the testing and qualification of welders in the field of fusion welding. It describes uniform rules for assessing practical skills and provides the basis for comparable qualification records, regardless of product type, place of use or testing body. The standard applies to the fusion welding of steel, aluminium, copper, nickel, titanium and zirconium as well as their alloys. It also defines the requirements for issuing, extending and determining the scope of welder qualification test certificates.
DIN EN ISO 9606 describes requirements for welder qualification tests, test procedures and ranges of qualification for different materials, welding processes and welding positions. It also regulates the validity and renewal of welder qualifications.
Topics covered at a glance:
DIN EN ISO 9606 provides an internationally recognised basis for the qualification of welders. It enables companies to demonstrate that their welding personnel have the practical skills required to carry out welding work in accordance with defined quality requirements. The standard supports quality assurance in manufacturing, plant engineering, pipeline construction and steel construction, and establishes a uniform basis for qualification and competence records.
Compared with the previous DIN EN ISO 9606-1 to DIN EN ISO 9606-5 series of standards, significant changes have been made:
By consolidating all material areas into one standard, application is simplified and the qualification of welders is made more uniform.
DIN EN ISO 9606 is the central standard for the testing and qualification of welders in fusion welding. It defines requirements for test procedures, ranges of qualification, welding processes, materials and welder qualification test certificates. By consolidating the previous parts of the standard into one document, it creates a uniform and internationally recognised basis for demonstrating the competence of welding personnel and ensuring welding quality.
