DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 specifies requirements for quality management systems for manufacturers of Ex products. The standard supplements the requirements of ISO 9001 with specific provisions for explosion-protected equipment, components and protective systems. It supports companies in consistently ensuring the conformity of their products and reliably implementing the requirements of Ex certifications.
The standard describes the requirements for quality management systems for the manufacture of products used in potentially explosive atmospheres. It focuses on the control of manufacturing processes, the monitoring of product conformity, and the documentation and traceability of Ex products. It also defines requirements for external providers, outsourced processes and organizational responsibilities.
For manufacturers of Ex products, an effective quality management system is a key prerequisite for maintaining certifications and accessing international markets. DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 helps companies design processes in accordance with the standard, clearly define responsibilities and demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the relevant Ex certification.
The 2025 edition has been comprehensively revised. New additions include further requirements for external providers and outsourced processes, new categories for raw materials, and rules for handling nonconforming Ex products. In addition, information obligations have been expanded, organizational models have been added, and the requirements for documentation and certification records have been clarified.
DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 provides the basis for standard-compliant quality management in the manufacture of Ex products. The standard supports companies in demonstrating product conformity, meeting certification requirements on an ongoing basis and transparently managing quality processes along the entire supply and value chain.
