Overview

This Part 7 of the DIN 14092 series of standards applies to workshops in buildings of fire brigades and establishes their elements for design. The elements for design according to this standard shall enable architects, planners, fire brigades and administrative authorities to design workshops in a demand-oriented manner. Workshops for the purposes of this standard are facilities in which all measures for cleaning, testing and maintenance of respiratory protective devices, chemical protective suits, protective clothing (personal protective equipment PPE) and fire fighting hoses as well as of electrical appliances can be carried out by particularly trained persons (rescue apparatus attendants). Workshops and maintenance areas of fire brigades and rescue services are, for example: - general workshop, - mechanical workshop, - workshop for fire fighting hoses, - workshops for maintenance and service of the personal protective equipment, - electrical workshop and service centre, - fire extinguisher repair shop, - garage, - special workshops (for example, maintenance of medical equipment), - workshop for medical vehicles. The room schedules, features, dimensional and guideline values serve as the basis for planning from which a selection shall be made depending on the local conditions. This results in room sizes and functional equipment. Areas, rooms and technical equipment might be combined, taking into account the legal provisions and accident prevention regulations. In order to adopt the aforementioned requirements to the state of the art and sets of rules the standard differs from DIN 14092-7:2012-04 as follows: a) requirements completely revised; b) structural requirements transferred from the tables to the standard text; c) normative references and bibliographical references updated; d) standard content editorially revised. The DIN 14092 series of standards for fire stations consists of Part 1: Elements for design, Part 3: Training tower for fire stations, and Part 7: Workshops. Working Committee NA 031-04-02 AA "Bauliche Anlagen und Einrichtungen" ("Constructional facilities and equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW) is responsible for this standard.
