DIN EN 10088-2 specifies the technical delivery conditions for hot- and cold-rolled sheet and strip of corrosion-resistant stainless steels. It describes requirements for material properties, delivery conditions, testing and marking and supports the selection of suitable stainless steels for general applications in industry and construction. The standard supplements the material overview in EN 10088-1 with specific delivery and quality requirements.
The standard defines the technical requirements for flat products made of stainless steels, including chemical composition, mechanical properties, surface finish, dimensional tolerances and test methods. It applies to hot- and cold-rolled sheet and strip of corrosion-resistant steels for general purposes, including applications involving food contact. In addition, it describes delivery conditions, inspection documents and marking requirements, providing an important basis for clear material selection and international comparison of stainless and corrosion-resistant steels.
Stainless steels are used in numerous sectors, including mechanical engineering, plant engineering, energy technology, the chemical industry, food technology and construction. DIN EN 10088-2 supports clear material selection and facilitates comparison between different steel grades. It therefore provides an important basis for design, material specification, procurement and quality assurance.
The information on material numbers, chemical compositions, mechanical properties and fields of application is particularly relevant. This helps users select suitable stainless and corrosion-resistant steels for corrosive, thermally stressed or highly demanding operating conditions.
The 2025 edition has been extensively updated. Key changes include:
DIN EN 10088-2 defines the technical delivery conditions for sheet and strip of corrosion-resistant stainless steels. With its detailed requirements for material properties, delivery conditions, testing and marking, it supports safe material selection and reliable quality assurance across numerous industrial applications.
