This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, the manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard applies to bridge and gantry cranes able to travel by wheels on rails, runways or roadway surfaces, and to gantry cranes without wheels mounted in a stationary position. This European Standard does not apply to non-fixed load-lifting attachments, installation and dismantling operations, runways and other structures nor does it regulate additional loads due to the installation of the crane on floating or tiltable ground. This European Standard specifies requirements for all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to bridge and gantry cranes when used as intended and under conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). This European Standard does not include requirements for the lifting of persons. The specific hazards due to potentially explosive atmospheres, ionizing radiation and operation in electromagnetic fields beyond the range of EN 61000-6-2 are not covered by this European Standard. This European Standard is applicable to bridge and gantry cranes manufactured after the date of its publication as an EN. This standard includes the German version of EN 15011:2014 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 147 "Cranes - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). In respect to DIN EN 15011:2011-05, the following modifications have been made: a) Clause 1, Scope; extended definition; b) Clause 2, Normative references have been updated; c) Clause 3, Terms and definitions; the definitions of 3.1 bridge crane and 3.2 gantry crane have been replaced; d) Clause 5, Safety requirements and/or protective measures; EN 15011 has been brought in line with EN 13001-1, -2 and -3-1 as well as EN 13135, superseding EN 13135-1 and -2, and with EN 60204-32; the following modifications/supplements have been made.
