The standard specifies the safety requirements for self-propelled rubber tyred vehicles intended primarily for use in underground mining and underground workings. It deals with requirements for minimizing hazards for commissioning, operation and maintenance. It does not apply to drilling rigs and earth-moving machinery not intended primarily for use in underground mines. It does not deal with specific hazards associated with special-purpose vehicles, for example, tankers and explosives vehicles and operation in potentially explosive atmospheres.
