This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the protective effectiveness or the toxic values of a wood preservative against infection by Lyctus brunneus (Stephens) when the product is applied as a surface treatment to wood. This method is applicable to: - water-insoluble chemicals which are being studied as active insecticides; or - organic formulation, as supplied or as prepared in the laboratory by dilution of concentrates; or - organic water-dispersible formulations as supplied or as prepared in the laboratory by dilution of concentrates; or - water-based preservatives, for example salts. Compared to DIN EN 20-1:1992-09, the source of the peptone is no longer specified and, under certain circumstances, other types of wood may be used for testing instead of oak. Tests with solvents for control purposes may be omitted if the solvent is water. New pictures have been used for Figures B.1, B.2, and B.3. The responsible national standardization committee is Working Committee NA 042-03-06 AA "Spiegelausschuss zu CEN/TC 38 Dauerhaftigkeit von Holz und Holzprodukten" ("Mirror committee for CEN/TC 38 durability of wood and wood products") at DIN Standards Committee Timber and Furniture (NHM).
This document replaces DIN EN 20-1:1992-09 .
