DIN EN 50059:2025-10

This document specifies the electrical requirements for hand-held or hand-operated electrostatic application equipment for non-ignitable liquid coating materials which - do not generate an explosive atmosphere inside the spraying area; - are used to process coating materials with a conductivity of the complete system up to 2 000 μS/cm; - operate with direct current having a d.c. sinusoidal ripple of not more than 10 % of the r.m.s. value; and - are used within a temperature range from 5 °C to 40 °C. This document specifies the following: - requirements for interfaces with machines in accordance with EN 16985:2018; - additional requirements for machines in accordance with EN 12621:2025 and EN 1953:2025. This document also specifies requirements for the safe operation of hand-held electrostatic application equipment, including the electrical installation. In addition to the processing of coating materials, the requirements also consider the cleaning and purge processes. For hand-held electrostatic application equipment used in the food and pharmaceutical industries additional requirements may apply. This document does not apply to: - hand-held electrostatic application equipment for ignitable materials; see EN 50050:2013, Parts 1 through 3; - cleaning systems for sprayers; - quality assurance systems for hand-held electrostatic application equipment (see EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2020, Annex ZB 11). The standard differs from DIN EN 50059 (VDE 0745-200):2018-12 as follows: a) new structure for the entire document; b) complete revision of Clauses 1 through 6; Clause 7 added; c) correction and amendment of Annex A; d) amendment of Annex B; e) amendment of Annex C; f) amendment of Annex ZZ; g) updated bibliography. Typical examples of application include hand-held application equipment for non-ignitable liquid coating materials.
