This part of the DIN EN 50436 (VDE 0406) series of standards specifies the test methods and performance requirements for breath alcohol interlocks with mouthpieces. The document is applicable to alcohol interlocks intended for use in all general preventive programs and those for drunk drivers, as well as in programs that are similarly monitored or supervised by law. This document can also be applied to alcohol interlocks intended for other purposes. This document is intended for testing laboratories and manufacturers of alcohol interlocks. It specifies the requirements and test procedures for type testing. This document does not apply to devices that measure the alcohol concentration in the interior air of the vehicle, to alcohol interlocks that do not have a mouthpiece, or to installation procedures and connections to the vehicle. The standard differs from DIN EN 50436-1 (VDE 0406-1):2014-09 and DIN EN 50436-2 (VDE 0406-2): 2015-10 as follows: a) EN 50436-2 has been integrated into EN 50436-1 and all necessary requirements have been included in EN 50436-1; b) Clause 1, Scope, has been updated to take the requirements of Part 2 into account; c) Clause 3, Terms, definitions for immobilizer, alcohol interlock, digital interface, low-power sleep mode, and handset have been added. Some existing definitions have been updated; d) Clause 4, General requirements, has been updated to reflect current data transmission requirements; e) Subclause 6.6, Low power sleep mode, the current in the low power sleep mode of the alcohol interlock has been changed from 5 mA to 1 mA at 12 V and at 24 V; f) Subclause 6.7, Electrical disturbances, has been updated; g) Subclause 6.7.2, Supply lines, grades have been adjusted; h) Subclause 6.9, Electromagnetic compatibility, both notes have been combined into one with reference to the EMC and RED directives; i) Clause 7, Calibration curve, the measurement uncertainty has been changed from ± 0.02 mg/l or ± 15% of the nominal value to ± 0.02 mg/l or ± 10% of the nominal value; j) Subclause 8.4, Drop test, a description for the handpiece has been added; k) Clause 9, Environmental tests, the test procedure has been revised and accuracies added where necessary; l) Clause 10, Breath sample, has been revised to add accuracies for the test gas flow; m) Subclause 11.1, Test gases, carbon dioxide has been added; n) Subclause 12.6, Filters, the entire section has been updated to distinguish between hose and disc filters; o) Subclause 12.6.1, Hose/Tube Filters, activated carbon has been specified as a mixture of pieces with diameters ranging from 5 mm to 8 mm; p) Subclause 12.7, Condensation, the clause has been updated; q) Subclause 12.8, Water, the clause has been updated; r) Subclause 12.10, Removal of the handpiece, two additional tests have been added; s) Subclause 15.1, Installation instructions, a note referring to EN 50436-7 has been added; t) Clause 17, Labelling and marking, additional requirements have been added; u) the German version has been adapted to the current standard text in Clause 3. This document is applicable to alcohol interlocks intended for use in all general prevention programs and programs for drunk drivers, as well as in programs that are similarly monitored or supervised by law.
This document replaces DIN EN 50436-1:2014-09; VDE 0406-1:2014-09 , DIN EN 50436-2:2015-10; VDE 0406-2:2015-10 .
