This part of IEC 61300 specifies the test method for establishment if a fibre optic device is suitable to withstand temperature changes, that means in practice, very short changes of extreme temperatures. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the specification of the test and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The standards for the performance (IEC 61753) and the CENELEC standards of the EN 50377 series refer to the standards of the IEC 61300 series. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
