This part of IEC 62148 covers the physical interface specification for modulator-integrated laser diode transmitters. The purpose of this document is to adequately describe the physical requirements for an optical fibre transmitter module that will enable mechanical interchangeability of transmitter modules complying with this standard. Interchangeability refers to both the requirements for the PCB and for panel mounting. The standard is a product standard and contains the PIN assignment of the transmitting and receiving elements, their positions on the PCB, and the outer dimensions. It is intended to ensure interoperability between the components of different manufacturers and provides developers and manufacturers with security regarding layout questions. The standard refers to standards on fibre optic connector interfaces (IEC 6175...). The responsible Subcommittee is UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components for communication cabling systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 62148-11:2004-06 .
