Overview
This standard describes the physical requirements for a fibre optic transmitter and receiver module to allow mechanical exchangeability of transmitter and receiver modules. Exchangeability both refers to the requirements for the printed circuit board as well as the installation into the enclosure. The standard is a product standard and contains the pin assignment of the transmitter and receiver components, their position on the circuit board and the outer dimensions. It serves for ensurance of interoperability between the components of various manufacturers and provides security for developers and manufacturers with regard to layout aspects. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components for communication cabling systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
