This International Standard specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements for LED lamps that have built-in means of stable operation (self-ballasted LED-lamps), together with the test methods and compliance criteria. Lamps complying with this standard are intended as retrofit solutions for incandescent lamps in mains operation or for compact fluorescent lamps or as replacements for low-voltage incandescent lamps with voltages < 50 V. They are used for domestic or similar lighting applications - having a rated wattage of up to 60 W, - a rated voltage of > 50 V to 250 V and - caps according to Table 1. The requirements of this standard relate only to type testing. Recommendations for whole product testing or batch testing are identical to those given in Annex C of IEC 62031. This standard includes requirements for photobiological safety. LED products will come onto the market, and LED products are also already on the market to replace existing lamps, either as a retrofit solution for incandescent lamps in mains operation or for compact fluorescent lamps, or as a replacement for low-voltage incandescent halogen lamps with voltages < 50 V. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 521.1 "Elektrische Lampen" ("Electrical lamps") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
