This standard applies to stationary electric circulation pumps for domestic use and similar purposes, intended for use in heating and/or domestic water systems. The scope also includes appliances not intended for normal household use but which may nevertheless constitute a hazard to the general public, such as appliances used by laymen in shops, small businesses, and agriculture. The domestic environment includes the dwelling and its associated buildings. Battery-operated appliances and other appliances operated by direct current are within the scope of this document. Equipment with two power supplies, either mains-powered or battery-powered, is considered battery-powered when operated in battery mode. Equipment and machines intended for use by trained persons in shops, small businesses, and agriculture, and equipment and machines designated for commercial use are also within the scope of this standard. The rated voltage of these pumps shall not exceed 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. This standard does not apply to: - pumps for circulating liquids other than water; - pumps, other than circulation pumps, covered by IEC 60335-2-41; - circulation pumps intended exclusively for industrial use; - circulation pumps intended for use in rooms where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas); - battery-operated circulation pumps. Furthermore, this standard does not generally take into account: - the use of stationary circulation pumps by children; - young children playing with the appliance.
This document replaces DIN EN 60335-2-51:2012-08; VDE 0700-51:2012-08 .
