Overview

This document specifies the requirements for the design of evidential measuring devices for the determination of breath alcohol concentration. This standard also specifies the modalities to be observed for the conclusive breath alcohol analysis. This document does not apply to reusable breath alcohol testers, breath alcohol testers for general use, or alcohol interlocks in accordance with the DIN EN 50436 (VDE 0406) series of standards. The standard differs from DIN VDE 0405-1 (VDE 0405-1):2017-01 and DIN VDE 0405-1 Corrigendum 1 (VDE 0405-1 Corrigendum 1):2025-03 as follows: a) incorporation of the minimum volume for breath alcohol measurement for persons of "diverse" gender; b) update of normative references; c) 3.19, residual alcohol in the mouth, term added; d) Corrigendum 1 incorporated, Subclause 5.6, exhalation duration changed; e) 9.2, oscillation, definition revised; f) Incorporation of Corrigendum 1; revision of Subclause 11.3; g) complete revision of Table C.1. This document applies to evidential measuring devices for the determination of breath alcohol concentration. It contains specifications with regard to the measurement parameter of breath alcohol concentration, but does not provide information on limit values for statutory regulations, case law and administrative provisions.
