Overview

This document specifies requirements for the design, planning, installation, operation and maintenance of alarm systems emitting an acoustical fire alarm for the output of which they are activated. Activation can be triggered automatically by the fire alarm system (FAS) or manually, or both. Manual activation can be triggered by a live announcement, for example. This standard applies in conjunction with DIN VDE 0833-1 (VDE 0833-1) and DIN VDE 0833-2 (VDE 0833-2). If these standards contain additions or deviations, then the provisions of DIN VDE 0833-4 (VDE 0833-4) shall be followed. In conjunction with building regulations and fire department-specific requirements, DIN 14675-1 shall be taken into account in particular. This also contains specifications for the issuing and distribution of instructions for the protection of persons in and around buildings. This document does not apply to alarms with acoustic signal devices or acoustic speech signal devices in accordance with DIN EN 54-3. The standard differs from DIN VDE 0833-4 (VDE 0833-4):2014-10 as follows: a) the structure of the document, including the order of the annexes, has been revised; b) Clause 2 "Normative references" has been updated; c) Clause 3 "Terms and abbreviations" has been revised; d) the phases for installation and operation according to 4.2 (formerly Clause 4) have been updated; e) Subclause 6.2.1 "Speech intelligibility" has been extensively revised; f) a simplified planning procedure has been introduced in Subclause 6.2.4; g) the requirements for fire announcements have been specified in a new Subclause 6.3.5; h) Subclause 7.3 "Power supply" (formerly 6.2.5) has been revised; i) the performance of hearing tests as part of maintenance in Clause 13 has been clarified; j) the procedures for determining the speech transmission index have been revised; k) the measurement report has been revised; l) Annex B "Planning aid for sound reinforcement systems" (formerly Annex D) has been revised; m) Annex C "Use of products in speech alarm systems" has been added; n) Annex D with information on digital audio transmission and the use of coding methods has been added; o) the requirements for a specific design of the interface to the BMZ (formerly Annex G) have been removed; p) the bibliography has been updated. An application example is speech alarm systems (SAA) for use in the event of a fire.
