Short description

This standard applies to the securing of loads on multi-track road vehicles in accordance with DIN 70010 in road haulage, regardless of the respective permissible gross weight (zGM). The requirements for load securing in cargo transport units in combined transport are described in standard VDI 2700 Part 7.Containers and swap bodies are considered to be cargo to be secured, as are the cargo items they contain. This standard is intended for consignors, carriers, loaders, vehicle owners, vehicle drivers and those who are responsible for securing of loads and safe transport by law, regulations, contract or other rules. The areas of responsibility are derived from the national regulations of other countries in cross-border road haulage and follow the applicable rules of technology. Application requires sufficient qualification appropriate to the activity. This standard provides guidance and information on products, types of use and requirements for load-securing equipment in road vehicles. It does not claim to be exhaustive. For many of these load-securing equipment, requirements for properties, replacement state of wear, labelling and testing are described for the first time. The wide variety of product variants, aids and possible combinations cannot be taken into account comprehensively. Verifiably equivalent load-securing equipment or those that achieve better securing can therefore also be used. The correct selection, combination and use of load-securing equipment must be carried out by the persons responsible for the specific individual case. Danger to persons or impairment of vehicle handling must be ruled out.To assess the performance of the overall load-securing system (e. g. vehicle body, lashing rails or locking beams), the manufacturer's specifications regarding the possible uses and strengths of vehicle bodies, lashing equipment and slings, and load-securing devices and aids must be observed. Information on aids for forming unit loads (e. g. stretch film, shrink film or strapping bands) can be found in the series of standards VDI 3968. Rail, sea and air transport are excluded from the scope. The same applies to combined transport, provided that special provisions apply, e. g. VDI 2700 Part 7 or other acknowledged rules for load-securing (e. g. for railways). In these cases, the load must be secured again in accordance with the requirements when transferring to another mode of transport, if necessary. This standard does not cover clamping rods/beams or wooden wedges.
