The manufacturer of electroheating and electromagnetic processing equipment shall ensure that external alternating magnetic fields are brought to a sufficiently low level. This Technical Specification deals with the subcategory of non-radiating magnetic near fields as the source of induced electric fields in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 6 MHz. External alternating magnetic fields can induce electric fields in the human body. These induced fields represent an important safety category. In this respect this Technical Specification is aimed at the technical applications in industrial electroheating installations and equipment and installations and equipment for electromagnetic processing, with the applicable safety standards being set out in the IEC 60519 series of standards. IEC 62110:2009 addresses the applicable measurement methods for the characterization of magnetic and electric fields with respect to exposure of the general population. IEC 62822-2 Ed. 1 provides evaluations related to limits of exposure for electric welding equipment from 0 Hz to 300 GHz. Since the magnetic field hazards of power line frequencies are different from those caused by industrial equipment operated at much higher frequencies that cause magnetic near fields at higher frequencies, this Technical Specification has a low frequency limit of 1 kHz. The responsible committee is DKE/K 362 "Industrielle Elektrowärme" ("Industrial electroheat") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
