Short description
This standard defines requirements for the assessment, design and approval of temporary/flexible take-off and landing areas for unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations in residential areas. It applies to vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) drone classes up to a maximum of 25 kg take-off mass. For larger departure masses, the requirements are recommendations and may need to be adjusted by the operator. The basics on, among other things, responsibilities, emergency procedures, flight preparation and flight execution can be found in Part 1 of the series of standards VDI 5912. The standad takes into account frequently occurring applications. Individual special applications are excluded. This standard applies exclusively to manual flight operations in which a remote pilot is present on site and controls the flight operations of the UA and/or can intervene in the flight operations. This standard is aimed particularly at commercial and licensed users of UAS; it serves as a recommendation for users in the context of sports and leisure activities with UAS. It can also provide a decision-making aid for the authorities involved. The UAS can either be operated by a remote pilot on site or it can be automated (e. g. for logistical applications). The requirements of this standard come from best practice examples and can therefore also be used, for example, for operations in the special category.
