This standard specifies terms and synonyms of terms used in dentistry within the process chain from an implantation of an endosseous dental implant to implantprosthetic restoration. The terms and designations for the individual system parts and process steps used by the manufacturers of dental CAD/CAM systems, DVT systems and implant-based restoration systems differ in the respective product specifications and instructions for use and are therefore confusing for the dentist and dental technician. The preparation of a national standard on the terminology of the dental process chain has been agreed upon in order to eliminate these uncertainties. A flowchart of the process chain has been introduced in Annex A to represent the logical flow of the process chain for implantprostetic restoration. The standard has been prepared by Working Group NA 014-00-21-01 AK "Terminologie dentaler Implantatsysteme" ("Terminology for dental implant systems") of Working Committee "Dentalimplantate" ("Dental implants") at the Standards Committee Dentistry (NADENT) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardisation e. V.
