This European Standard lists visual strength grades, species and sources of timber, and specifies the strength classes from EN 338, to which they are assigned. For the grades, timber species and sources indicated, there is long experience of use and/or satisfactory test data. The sources listed are therefore largely determined by existing commercial practice. This document contains Amendment A1, which has been approved by CEN on 2006-12-28, Amendment A2, which has been approved by CEN on 2008-02-02, Amendment A3, which has been approved on 2009-04-21, and Amendment A4, which has been approved by CEN on 2010-02-11. This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 124 "Timber structures", the secretariat of which is held by SFS (Finland). The work on Amendment 4 and this consolidated version was accompanied by the German experts of NABau Mirror Committee NA 005-04-01 "Holzbau (Sp CEN/TC 124, CEN/TC 250/SC 5)" ("Timber structures (Mirror Committee of CEN/TC 124, CEN/TC 250/SC 5)") of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization. With respect to DIN EN 1912:2009-08 the following changes have been made: a) in Table 1, the Czech Republic has been added to strength classes C30, C24 and C16; Spain has been added to strength class C22; b) in Table 2, the species maple of the grade "LS10 and better" has been added to Germany, strength class D30; c) Acer pseudoplatanus and Quercus rubra have been added to Table 4; d) the Czech Republic and the Netherlands and the corresponding grading standards have been added to Table A.1.
