Overview
Packaging is necessary to protect electrostatic discharge sensitive devices (ESDS) from physical and environmental damage during manufacture, transportation and storage. In addition, the packaging for ESDS shall protect against damage due to static electricity. This standard defines the properties of packaging required for the protection of ESD-sensitive devices (ESDS) in all phases of production, transport and storage. Test methods are referenced to evaluate packaging and packaging materials for these product and material properties. The main change with respect to the previous edition concerns the replacement of references to ANSI / ESD STM11.13 with reference to IEC 61340-4-10. The responsible committee is DKE/K 185 "Elektrostatik" ("Electrostatics") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
