This document is the German version of the new edition of the Technical Specification CEN/TS 14972 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 191 "Fixed firefighting systems" (secretariat: United Kingdom) of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). On the national level, the Working Committee responsible for this Specification is NA 031-03-03 AA "Wasserlöschanlagen und Bauteile" ("Sprinkler systems") of the FNFW. This document supplements clause 3, Terms and definitions, subclause A.4 (test methods for fires caused by deep-fat fryers) in Annex A, Annex F (test methods for medium fire hazard class OH3) and the bibliography in CEN/TS 14972:2008. The document provides information on the minimum requirements for watermist systems. The document contains a set of special test conditions for specification of criteria by which the claimed extinguishing capacity of watermist systems can be checked and the extent of their suitability can be classified and specified, while at the same time a minimum standard for sufficient performance and/or safety is specified. This Technical Specification lays down requirements for design, construction and testing of watermist systems and contains further information on this topic as well as information for assessment criteria of fixed watermist systems for special risks and provides fire test protocols for various risk groups. The requirements do not apply for watermist systems used on board ships, airplanes, vehicles and mobile firefighting systems or for underground installations in mining. Aspects of watermist systems which concern explosion protection are outside the scope of this document. As no generalized planning procedure exists, the aim of the document is that watermist systems shall be tested under real fire conditions and that the components of the systems shall be tested by a qualified test laboratory. Complete system acceptance necessitates the corresponding fire test protocols, test report regarding the components and the manufacturer's handbook for design, construction and maintenance. This document does not apply to sprinkler systems in accordance with DIN EN 12845 and water spray systems in accordance with DIN CEN/TS 14816.
